Let’s help you remember the Left 4 Dead zombie names

As we’re all settling into Back 4 Blood matches with our friends, we’ve obviously been comparing it to it’s forerunners Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. If we’re honest, a big part of that has been saying “Wait, what was that called again?” as we encounter new Ridden mutations and compare them to our long-forgotten memories of the zombie apocalypses of the past.

We figured that we could save you the trouble by writing this Left 4 Dead zombie names guide, where we’ll make the obvious comparisons to their Back 4 Blood counterparts.

Common Infected

Common Infected Left 4 Dead

These are your basic, dollar store zombies. The Horde are the most common enemy you’ll encounter in Left 4 Dead. They’ll bite and claw at you, but you don’t have to worry much because you can’t actually get infected yourself. The Ridden are their counterpart in Back 4 Blood. They’re exactly the same, but a bit more purple.

What are the zombie names in Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2?

The Boomer

Boomer Left 4 Dead

The Boomer is a rotund looking zombie that spits noxious bile at survivors. It can blind foes and draw in crowds of common infected to attack targets. In Back 4 Blood it’s closest counterpart is a bloated mutant called The Reeker, who does similar things, but is a bit harder to kill.

The Hunter

Hunter Left 4 Dead

The Hunter wears a hoodie and dives around the map, pouncing on foes and slashing at their faces. It’s closest counterpart in Back 4 Blood is the four-armed monster The Stinger, which is sometimes also known as a Chaser.

The Smoker

Smoker Left 4 Dead

The Smoker is a monster that grabs survivors and tries to choke them out with it’s disgusting extended tongue. In Back 4 Blood we’d consider The Hag to be the creature most like it as both do weird mouth-based ambush stuff. Blech.

The Tank

Tank Left 4 Dead

The Tank is the biggest, strongest zombie around. He’s very top heavy, with big shoulders and teeny-tiny little legs. It charges survivors and then punches them to death. In Back 4 Blood, it’s most like the Breaker, which is a lot like it but also has armor that you can break off.

The Charger

Charger Left 4 Dead

The Charger, well, charges into human survivors with his one really big arm. In function he doesn’t have that much of a counterpart in Back 4 Blood, but the Tallboy has one really big arm, so we’re going to say the two are alike anyway.

The Jockey

Jockey Left 4 Dead

The Jockey is a smaller zombie that likes to latch on to humans and attack survivors while riding on their shoulders. In Back 4 Blood the closest approximation is The Sleeper, who will hide on walls until a survivor walks past. When it spots human prey, it will leap onto them and hold them in place, making them an easy target for the Ridden horde.

The Spitter

Spitter Left 4 Dead

The Spitter makes huge puddles of green ooze that will burn survivors and damage them over time. It’s a pretty disgusting deadly ability to have. In Back 4 Blood you’ll encounter The Retch, which has the same troublesome power.

The Witch

Witch Left 4 Dead

The Witch looks like a crying lady in her underwear and will merely sob until you startle her with flashlights, gunfire, or getting too close to her. She’s very strong and can knock down humans with only one strike. In Back 4 Blood you’ll have to sneak past the Snitcher, who has a very similar moveset but generally screams a lot more.
