Among the many thrilling reveals during December 9th’s The Game Awards 2021, we were given a glimpse of yet another new Star Wars game. Can’t have too much of a good thing, right?
Star Wars Eclipse is set to be an all-new, narrative, action-adventure gameplay experience bringing the High Republic era to life for the first time, having only been told so far through a series of graphic novels and comic books. The latest in a long line of upcoming Star Wars game titles, Eclipse is being produced by Lucasfilm Games and Quantum Dream, the award-winning developer behind Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Star Wars Eclipse has no release date yet, as it is still in very early development.
Star Wars Eclipse gameplay
While we don’t know very much about Star Wars Eclipse yet, Quantum Dream have revealed some bare bones details about what we can expect from the gameplay. For a start, we know we’ll be able to choose from a vast selection of playable characters, who each bring their own unique personalities to the branching narrative. As such, each character you choose – and each decision you make with them – will have its own outcome on the ever-evolving storyline.
While some of the characters and the story arc might be unfamiliar to some, the territories should feel familiar. Eclipse will take place mostly in the Outer Rim, during a time when a series of events could “alter the carefully balanced peace” of Lesser Space. Perhaps the plot of Eclipse could involve the Drengir Crisis, or even raids by Nihil, as these are both crucial storylines from the High Republic era. Alternatively, we could see an entirely new plot introduced for Star Wars Eclipse.
Star Wars Eclipse cinematic trailer
An epic cinematic trailer for Star Wars Eclipse was revealed during The Game Awards 2021 on December 9th. And cinematic is just the word for this stunning, three-minute masterpiece. I sent the trailer to a friend, who, upon watching it through for the first time, simply said, “That could be a movie.” A thought that went through my head, as well, as I watched the trailer, wondering most of the way through whether this was actually live-action. If the trailer is any sort of indication of the sort of visual experience we can expect from the final game, we’re certainly in for a treat.
Again, this is as much as we know about the upcoming Star Wars Eclipse for now, but we’ll keep you in the loop as more information is revealed. And check out more massive exclusives from The Games Awards 2021, like the brand-new trailer for Sonic Frontiers, and the announcement that Warhammer Space Marine II is finally on its way.
