Chinese lens manufacturer Viltrox has just announced the availability of a limited edition of some of its most popular prime lenses: a choice of matte white or glossy red f/1.4 lenses (choice of 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm). Only 500 units will be available, so act fast if you want one.
Usually, most camera operators and photographers alike prefer matte black lenses on their cameras, not only to avoid drawing too much attention, but also to prevent unwanted (colored) reflections from windows and the like.
But if you want to stand out a bit, this might be for you: Viltrox has just launched a limited edition of its 23mm, 33mm and 56mm f/1.4 lenses in glossy red or matte white. All these lenses are available exclusively for the FUJI X-mount.
Vitrox Limited Edition
All of these limited edition lenses are 100% identical to their regular black counterparts. So you get a fast f/1.4 FUJI X-mount autofocus (photography) lens , but in glossy red or matte white. Although the color scheme might clash a bit with the FUJIFILM camera bodies and I personally would always prefer a sheer black lens over a glossy red one, these Limited Edition lenses are probably more for collectors who will certainly enjoy them.
The shortest lens with a focal length of 23 mm has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 m and a viewing angle of 28° – the weight is 260 g. The slightly longer 33 mm variant weighs 270 g, requires at least 0.4 m to focus and offers a viewing angle of 45.7°. At the long end of this spectrum sits the 56mm f/1.4 lens with a minimum focusing distance of 0.6m. At 290 g, it is also the heaviest of the three lenses.
Regardless of whether you choose red or white, each lens comes with a square lens hood, lens cap, mount cover, and soft case. The 33mm and 56mm lenses consist of 10 elements in 9 groups while the 23mm sports 11 elements in 10 groups. All three offer a nine-blade aperture diaphragm. The filter size is 52 mm for all three lenses.
Pricing and availability
You can get just your favorite focal length or a set of three (23mm, 33mm and 56mm). Pricing is as follows (glossy red or matte white):
- 23mm f/1.4: $379
- 33mm f/1.4: $329
- 56mm f/1.4: $379
- three-lens set: $1,079
According to Viltrox only 500 pieces each (or maybe total?) will be produced, so you should act rather quickly if you want something shiny red or matte white in your bag (or on your shelf).
